About The Book
Brian Bolden, author of the book: “I'm a Man Who Happens To Be Black”, is an accomplished motivational speaker committed to creating opportunities that will facilitate the success of youth, particularly Black males. His popular entry into the literary world has generated frank discussions regarding the values and principles embraced by our youth. Mr. Bolden openly states that the rejection of positive mainstream values, such as proper speech, behavior and dress, has derailed the efforts of many African-American youth. Embracing the positive attributes of the mainstream allows the disenfranchised to acquire and maintain the same economic, educational, personal and social strides that other cultures gain through acceptance of mainstream values.
Brian Bolden's mission is based on his life experiences and designed to reach at-risk youth. Brian Bolden’s recently authored book: "I'm a Man Who Happens To Be Black" chronicles his personal journey of evolving into an educated, productive and successful man, "who just happens to be Black".
Mr. Bolden believes:
- the key to success involves erasing racial stereotypes and rejecting the glorified "ghettoism" that infects the mind and spirit;
- that accepting positive mainstream principles establishes a foundation for success, and
- it is essential to encourage disenfranchised youth, particularly African-American youth, to concentrate on education and creating a positive self image in order to gain spiritual, educational, personal, social, emotional and financial success.
"I'm a Man Who Happens To Be Black" is a book that is destined to change the way many youth, particularly African American males, view their ability to become successful. The book assists young people with embracing socially acceptable principles, behaviors and ideals without losing their cultural identity or feeling they have "betrayed their race" when choosing to model mainstream behaviors. Brian Bolden’s success is directly linked to his quest to be recognized as a man, who just happens to be Black.
